Bubbles and Burps
I will never forget the morning my second son, who at the time just turned two, decided to drink a bottle of hydrogen peroxide. It sounds worse than it really is, but I found this out later.
We were getting ready to leave out the door, both Isaac and Joseph went to preschool for a good portion of the morning during this time, I had just finished getting both boys ready, when baby Jacob begins his hungry cry. I breastfed all my boys and was very intune with his hungry call. I hold Jacob and sit down in my bedroom, relaxed, I proceed to breastfeed my baby. The other two are in my bedroom waiting for me and Joseph decides to go in my bathroom.
Almost always I had everything put up very neatly and kept, however, the previous night, my oldest son had a boo boo and the hydrogen peroxide bottle was left on the counter. Joseph decides to take a plastic cup that happens to be sitting on the counter and pours himself a glass of hydrogen peroxide. I had the door open to the bathroom but had no idea he was drinking peroxide.
When I realize what's been done, I try to stay calm and I call poison control. They explain to me what to expect in the next 24 hours...alot of regergitation. The good news was that it wasn't very serious.
I explained to my son what was going on in his body, he kept saying, "Mommy, my stomach is making a noise, I don't feel well." He would burp and bubbles would come out. It reminded me of a dishwasher that was overloaded with soap. Isaac thought it was disgusting. The amazing thing was that he burped and bubbled so much in the first hour, he was fine afterwards and was able to finish the day out at school. God was looking out for us again and I was so thankful he recovered so quickly. I always keep chemicals out of reach of the kids and thank God everyday for him looking over us. There are always worse things to get upset about, and I like the idea of thinking positive, when you get upset over something, remember it can always be worse and remember God is our shepherd keeping watch over his sheep.
