God's Got That Thing Too
I decided two years ago to quit drinking coffee. I completely cut out coffee altogether and switched to decaf. Coffee had become "that thing" in my life.
I started drinking coffee again because in my mind, the justification for coffee had more advantages than disadvantages. I just missed "that thing" every morning.
Where am I going with this story? Well, after reading Samuel 11, and putting together my faithful 100% blog about God, it is apparent that God has "that thing" too. I have concluded based on biblical evidence that God's Thing is you and me, and Israel, and if you are a direct relative to the Jewish nation of Israel or an adopted heir to the blessing of Abraham, you are "that thing" that get's God going in the morning. You are "that thing" that he stocks up on and is in the cupboard, or the photograph in the wallet.
So if you started your day out discouraged, don't be, because you get God motivated and stirred each new day. How do I know this? It's not a big secret. Romans 8:38-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[b] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord
What does God say about those that touch you or harm you?
Zechariah 2:8 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; After the glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.
Did you know this? You and I are "the thing" the apple of his eye.
If you read my blogpost God is Faithful, 100 percent, you will understand, that you and I are no similar than the little red egg in the story, and Horton is God, being faithful in all elements, storms, trials, difficulties, staying true to the egg, staying faithful to see it hatch. God wants to see victory in your life, and my life.
Back to I Sam. 11, Saul is told that Jabesh Gilead has been taken hostage by Nashesh, an Ammonite who wants to take control of this town in Israel, agreeing to a seven day grace period to go seek messengers who would fight.
I Sam. 11:2 But Nahash the Ammonite replied, “I will make a treaty with you only on the condition that I gouge out the right eye of every one of you and so bring disgrace on all Israel.”
Did he really just threaten to gouge out the Lord's eyes...because after all, they are the apple of it, right?
I Sam. 11:6 When Saul heard their words, the Spirit of God came upon him in power, and he burned with anger.
Why would God quicken Saul to be so angry so fast over Jabesh Gilead? Because... Jabesh Gilead was "That Thing".
Who is attacking you? Who is mocking you? Who has tried to take advantage of you? Don't dwell too long on being hurt or angry, because we should love and forgive our enemies and brethren, but remember, you are just as great as Jabesh Gilead, and you are the apple of God's eye, so rest in God when adversity comes your way.
Let's not forget, Jesus is King, and he is fighting for "the thing", because we are his and apart of his kingdom, no more significant than Jabesh Gilead. If he has made us "his thing" than shouldn't we make him "that thing" in our life?
Think of times when you were in distress or caught in a storm of adverisity, and can you think how King Jesus came to your rescue. Was it evident that the battle was won, and you were the apple of God's eye through the outcome.
Think on these things, God is faithful 100%, and he loves "that thing", make it personal today. Adopt this as truth, you are the apple of God's eye.
Prayer today, Thank you God for making me "that thing". I know the bible says that perfect love cast out fear I John 4:18, and that you invest your day in my life. Give me a heart and mind to live each day for you, I want to make you "that thing" in my life too, Dear Lord.
I love my family but don't get me wrong, they do not love me like Jesus, and he needs to be first place in my heart every day. I need to put his picture on the mirror to be reminded of his love for me.
I Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
