Reliance in a Rock

I Samuel 17: 45-47 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

Do you  hear the victory in David's voice.  Can you hear the voice of truth in his proclamation?  Goliath may come against him with sword and spear and javelin, three aggressive weapons, but David has come against him in the name of the Lord

There is just something powerful about that name Jesus.   Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

David is proud of God, he takes it to heart, he is owned and labelled by his God.   He speaks authority into his crisis because he is positive that God will deliver his enemy into his hands.   God doesn't save by sword and spear, the battle is his to begin with, and with that, he will deliver his people.   This is what  a little boy in Israel knows because he knows God, he knows that great Name that delivers and fights for "that thing" Israel.

I Samuel 17:48-51 So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. 49 Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone; and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead, so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone, and struck the Philistine and killed him. But there was no sword in the hand of David. 51 Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.

Can you imagine, just imagine the men of Israel watching this young boy with Giant courage and Giant faith RUN to his enemy, not once anticipating or terrorized by Goliath, but completely motivated by the spirit of God to fight him with his rock.

We have a rock that fights for us too, his name is Jesus.  I wrote a blog once on the resting place of God, it is a rock, which is Jesus Christ.  Do you find in troubles and battles that you rely on your own srength and weapons, or do you rely on the rock?   The same rock that David has in his pouch, is the same rock we have in our pouch, use it, God wants us to rest in him.

Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

2 Samuel 22:2 He said: "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;

Proverbs 29:25 Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe

Where are you at today in this lesson?  I am at a place where God is showing me Reliance.  Reliance on him, not on the circumstances at hand.  Are you running to God for victory?  Do you tend to be terrorized by your problems, do you see the Giant Goliath and not the Giant Rock?

I see the unchurched world as a huge Goliath.  David said the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

Romans 14:11 For it is written, "AS I LIVE, SAYS THE LORD, EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW TO ME, AND EVERY TONGUE SHALL GIVE PRAISE TO GOD

Pray today for God to reveal to you reliance in him.  Look at David in this story.  He held onto truth, and his truth in God fought his Goliath.
